2012 Watchlist: First Basemen

Chris Marrero Chris Marrero
Born: 7/2/1988
Ht. 6’3″
Wt. 210
Bats: R
Throws: R
Career Stats
Injured in Winter Ball, reports vary as to
when he’ll return. Likely to spend time in
Syracuse proving he’s healthy given the
club’s committment to 1B Adam LaRoche
and the option of Michael Morse. The
scouts keep touting the “plus raw power”
but the proof remains elusive. He has little
left to prove in the minors, but may have to
go elsewhere to get another shot in MLB.
Tyler Moore Tyler Moore
Born: 1/30/1987
Ht. 6’2″
Wt. 185
Bats: R
Throws: R
Career Stats
The 2011 season was Moore’s retort that
his monster 2010 second half was a fluke.
But he’s still turning 25 in 2012 and yet to
prove himself at AAA. Doesn’t walk much,
does strike out a lot, has never played away
from 1B. There’s talk of him moving to LF,
but even club officials admit via BA he has
below-average range and speed.
Steve Souza Steve Souza
Born: 4/24/1989
Ht. 6’3″
Wt. 205
Bats: R
Throws: R
Career Stats
Following a PED suspension that cut short
2010, Souza came to Potomac to banish
that ghost as well as learn a new position.
Showed flashes of power early (9HR in Apr/
May), but then went weeks without going
deep, finishing with just 11HR. Nearly
doubled his walk rate from ’10 to ’11, now
needs to pick his spots to attack.
Justin T. Miller Justin Miller
Born: 11/28/1988
Ht. 6′
Wt. 180
Bats: R
Throws: R
Career Stats
A 2010 draftee that repeated the NYPL,
Miller put up a strong .299/.361/.498 line
that got him onto the Top 5 Position
Players for the Doubledays and onto our
radar. Likely to begin 2012 at Hagerstown
but will have to start strong to silence the
“too old” whispers.

Career Stats
One of the 16 IFAs that the Nationals

y.o., but was invited to the FIL this past
Sept. — a sign he might spend 2012
in the GCL.
