  1. Sorry for your loss, Luke!

  2. I am so sorry for your loss. Thankfully, it happened while he as sleeping. RIP Spike.

  3. Ugh. That stinks. Sorry for your loss.

  4. So sorry, Luke & Family. He was such an important part of NP, I think you’re right to not retire his photos.
We get so attached, thankfully it was a painless end for him.

  5. Very sorry for your loss I have an old dog too and I’m dreading the day I might have to make a decision.

There are 3 things outside of my family I love equally, travel, baseball and dogs.

    RIP Spike.

  6. Sorry Man.

  7. Luke, I rarely write but read you daily. I am sorry for your loss. My Golden had 12 great year and I know Spike will be missed. Please keep using pictures of him unless that hurts too bad.

  8. Luke, very sorry to hear of your loss

  9. Sorry to hear about your loss, Luke.

  10. I am sorry for your loss.

  11. Sorry for your loss, Luke. We lost our shepherd two years ago, and my daughter still cries.

Does anyone know what Luke meant by this? Other than hearing that Purke got put on the DL, I haven’t seen any details about it. Is surgery a given?

“In what should be presumed to be a procedural move, LHP Matt Purke has been placed on the 7-Day DL.”

    • Byron Kerr over at MASN has reported shoulder stiffness. No word on seriousness or potential surgery yet.

    • My guess (lacking anything other than Luke’s “procedural”) is that it’s just another turn of the DL merry go round. With 8 guys on the DL in Hagerstown, and a 7-day DL in the minors, some of the injuries may not be, er, all that serious (wink wink). Just like some of the guys who were “sent to Auburn” as a matter of procedure were still seen around the clubhouse.

  12. I’m so sorry about Spike, Luke. He was an integral member of your family and was becoming one in ours.

  13. Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

  14. RIP Spike, you will be missed.

    Sorry for your loss, Luke

  15. Sorry to hear about Spike…I always looked forward to hearing about him.

  16. I am also sorry to hear about Spike. Take solace in knowing that he is in a better place.
